Nation's Parade
The WWII 60th
Anniversary Committee has asked Sons of The American Legion, Pelham Squadron's help in promoting participation in the
Veteran's Day parade to be held in New York City. This will be the
concluding event of their series of worldwide commemorations of WWII.
Information is provided below. I am asked to help organize a delegation to
participate from Westchester. Perhaps Sons from other areas will want to
participate in the walk down Fifth Avenue.
Planning is underway for the 2005 Veterans Day Parade-The Nations Parade.
The Nations Parade will be commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the end
of World War II and honoring our World War II veterans. MOVA and the United
War Veterans' Council need a few good men and women to volunteer for the
parade effort. Also, if your Post is interested in marching in this year's
parade, please see the link below for the United War Veterans' Council Parade
Application. Please go to www.volunteernyc.org to sign up. Here are
the specifics:

a proud New York City tradition that includes the WWII 50th Anniversary (1995)
and the Korean War 50th Anniversary (2000-2003).
This year's parade is the final event of the Department of Defense's official
WWII 60th anniversary commemoration. It will take place in New York City
on Friday November 11 - Saturday November 12 (Veterans Day Weekend). The
event organizers have invited World War II veterans from around the nation
to represent their home states at this special commemoration.
This year's parade will include:
March through heart of Manhattan (Up 5th Avenue from 26th street to 56th Street.
750,000 spectators and 25,000 participants from across America, including veterans and youth marching bands.
This is a great opportunity for the American legion to show its leadership
as a veterans organization and honor respects to both WWII veterans, all
veterans, and today’s Armed Services.
The Mayor's Office of Veterans' Affairs (MOVA) was mandated by Local Law
53 of the New York City Charter in 1987. Our mission is to advise the Mayor
on issues and projects impacting on the veterans' community. We offer information
and make referrals for veterans and members of the military who may require
the assistance of the United States Department of Veterans' Affairs, the
New York State Division of Veterans' Affairs, the Department of Defense,
New York City Agencies, and relevant service providers throughout New York
City. We also support both veteran and military initiatives that are produced
throughout the city.
